Shambala

Shambala was founded by actress 'Tippi' Hedren, star of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

The location of Shambala was used in the shooting of the movie Roar. Tippi founded the Roar Foundation for the purpose of providing a place for captive big cats to live out their remaining days after they were no longer wanted by the entertainment industry. It later expaned to include wild cat species of all sizes that needed a place to live in peace. Many have also come from illegal private collections. The Roar Foundation opposes private ownership of exotic cats.

Shambala offers the public a chance to see their cats in person on one weekend each month. Space is limited and reservations are required. Memberships are also available. As of June 23, 2008 Shambala had nine servals.
